Gay Costa Rica has a new frontier emerging on its north Pacific coast. Gay travelers to the new Costa Rica are coming asvacationers, real estate investors, retirees, and those ready tochange their lives. The world’s gay community is discovering Costa Rica’s north Pacific weather, beaches, sunsets, resorts, surfing, ecotours, biodiversity, sense of real personal freedom, close proximity throughLiberia Airport, and the sense that a new global destination is emerging....
There have been opportunities for the gay community in the past……
South Beach evolved from retirement hotels to an international travel destination.
Fire Islandbecame a secluded sanctuary on beautiful ocean beaches close to America's largest city.
Fort Lauderdaleattracted a large community of residents and retirees.
Costa Rica’s North Pacific Gold Coast is one of today’s new gay opportunities. This website is for those who are looking for new directions and would consider Costa Rica – for vacation, investment, retirement, or a change of life. It offers ideas that could be milestones on the road of your life. Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coast isn’t South Beach, Fire Island or Fort Lauderdale yet, but the fundamentals are in place for it to evolve with some of the best aspects of all three.
Allen and David took the Costa Rica “turn” in the road of their lives 6 years ago and have never looked back. They have embraced Costa Rica for vacation, investment, probable retirement, and a change in their lives. They have explored, played, learned, worked, made friends, opened businesses, and realized that Costa Rica was just what they were looking for in a future. This website illustrates parts of their story to offer opportunities that may appeal to you, and how to explore them for yourself.

Allen and David had lived in Chicago for 12 years when they decided to explore places, while on vacation, that might take their lives in a new direction. To be honest, they tried Tahiti first, but the distance from the US, the cost of living, and the difficulty owning property made them look further. Costa Rica was a natural second choice, after booking friends’ vacations there through their gay travel agency, Yellow Brick Road Travel. Many gay clients had been to Costa Rica before, traveling through San Jose, the capital and only international airport. Most went to the central Pacific coast for the (relatively) nearby gay resorts of Manuel Antonio and Quepos. To reach the northern Pacific coast, you had to drive 5-6 hours from San Jose, and once there, work with the few tourist resources in the area. In December, 2002, Delta Airlines started a once-daily flight from Atlanta to Costa Rica’s new international airport in Liberia, landing visitors one hour from the beautiful Pacific beaches and sunsets on the northern coast. No one could have imagined that by now the Liberia airport would welcome 60 weekly international flights from North America and Europe.
Come see for yourself!
Check with Delta, American, Continental, Northwest, US Air, United, Air Canada, or charter companies for their connecting and non-stop flights from Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Miami, Los Angeles, Newark, Chicago, Toronto, Charlotte, Minneapolis, , Calgary, London, Brussels, and New York-JFK to Liberia, Costa Rica.Traditional high season is December through April, but Costa Rica’s appeal is year-round.

Investment
Costa Rica has many advantages for foreign investors, including the ability to own 100% of an asset without local participation, low taxes, stable government, and the global attraction of the coutry as a tourist destination.
The north Pacific coast of Costa Rica offers investment opportunities for every budget, timeframe, ownership strategy, and geographic area of interest. Its recent introduction as an emerging world-class vacation and retirement alternative, with easy airline access from North America and Europe, led to its recognition as a very attractive investment alternative. Investors arrive at the new international airport in Liberia and are only an hour from most areas along this coast.
Allen and David started with an investment in land. It was an ocean/sunset view lot, near the top of a mountain, in an area destined to become one of the north Pacific coast’s most exclusive residential areas. The view from their lot offered a feeling of relaxation, timelessness, and connection with the larger universe that was exactly what they were looking for in their change of life. It truly is a “secluded sanctuary on beautiful ocean beaches” and there are other similar locations.
Since they arrived they have lived in a condo on the beach, in a townhouse in a wooded community near the beach, and now are on their mountain with their cat, Henry, and their dogs, Rudy, Bunny, and Maggie. They also have opened businesses servicing the increased tourist volume and real estate development activity that has come to the northern Pacific coast. They have staffed these businesses with local professionals, and made it their mission to help build Costa Rica for the future that they see coming. Retirement
Have you considered living in a foreign country (part-time or full-time) when you are ready to retire? Costa Rica is one of the most stable and welcoming, candidate retirement locations for North Americans. Even if your retirement years seem distant, you may want to consider Costa Rica’s north Pacific coast and get your early plans in motion. It is like living in a vacation. The country and the coast are extremely beautiful and the weather is a combination of Hawaii and Southern California. You can be as active as you wish.Every imaginable sport or leisure time activity is available. These can range from golf, surfing and fishing, to language lessons, ecotours, and yoga.
Your residence is easy to own and maintain.Real estate purchases are conducted in US dollars and all foreigners are welcome to purchase property. The concrete and tile construction is adapted to the environment, which also places minimal stress on structures and systems.
Assistance and staff are available and affordable.Live-in housekeepers, cooks, or maintenance personnel can be employed for $500-$700 per month, plus a guest room or studio apartment of their own in your residence. You are only a few hours from all parts of North America.Maintaining family ties and friendship connections is easier from Costa Rica than most other foreign countries with similar retirement advantages.
Costa Rica welcomes you to stay on a full-time basis. With a provable pension or foreign income of $1000 per month, Costa Rica will grant you “pensionado” status and allow you to stay as long as you wish each year. You can obtain a similar permission, no matter what your age, by depositing $60,000 in a local bank account, and agreeing to leave it there, as long as you wish to have “rentista” status. These rules are subject to change, and you will need to consult a local attorney to begin the application process, but the welcoming philosophy remains.
When Allen and David changed their lives with Costa Rica, it was also with an eye toward where they might want to be retired someday. They are ready to share their Costa Rica experience with you.

Change of Life
When, in the past, did you know it was time to change your life?
What did you do about it? New career?
New apartment?
New city?
New lover?
New diet?
New sports?
Did you ever think, new country?
Usually, considering a move to a new country isn’t the first thing to pop into anyone’s head, but it is now something to consider. In today’s shrinking world, the reality of moving to a new country is often far less challenging than most people would believe. It simply requires preparation, research, and the desire to go. Costa Rica, particularly on the northern Pacific coast, is one of the few countries in the world where North Americans have moved in significant numbers, established new lives, and contributed to the evolution of their new home. Most visited first on vacation and something drew them back. It is easy to understand with the natural beauty, weather, friendly people, and enormous economic opportunities.
It is possible to stay in Costa Rica for 90 calendar days after entering as a tourist. You must leave for at least 3 calendar days before entering again for 90 more. Many people, visiting Costa Rica for an extended period while considering a move, take long weekends in Granada, Nicaragua, or Panama City, Panama, to fulfill their exit requirement with the least effort. It is usually clear in 2 or 3 cycles whether Costa Rica will be right for you. Once the decision is made, it is possible to apply for permanent residency in a number of ways, if you are unable to qualify for pensionado or rentista status.
Allen and David will be glad to explain their Costa Rica experiencewith tourist status, applying for permanent residency, and their basic decision to leave the United States for their new home. Email your questions to:info@thenextgaycostarica.com
